I received a copy of this from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.Cory Doctorow likes to use fiction as a way to explore issues that matter to him - censorship, privacy, creativity, virtual world gold mining, girl gamers - some of his works do this very Counterparts: Or the Cross of Love (1862) successfully and enjoyably, like with Anda's Game, falls somewhere in betwee. This isn't the kind of book I'd pick up to read and I believe both the cover and the summary do not bring it justice, because it is a wonderful book and it doesn't look like, from the cover and blur. The author handles common objections/thinking with gentleness but straightforwardnes. It will be a long time before I get the voice of Charlton Heston out of my hea. The heroine has broken down on the side of a road in the snow and though she liked the blue eyes and smile of the guy who stopped to offer help, she didn't allow it to sway her into going in his truck or having a feeling he is trust worthy and kind and loving or she can trust him and feeling a desire she just can't resist knowing he won't hurt her like some of those other stupid heroines in other books,which usually ends up in them having sex for the rest of the book and ending with them falling in so called love, but in real life would probably end up with them raped and killed.Yeah so far I liking this heroine, that's right now, she might do something to change my mind.I had to stop and write that I'm happy to read that her attraction for him sent beyond the physica.
